Doula Services: Based in Hove, I can offer services to you as a birth and/or postnatal doula and Placenta Encapsulation Specialist if you live in East or West Sussex UK, covering Brighton, Hove, Worthing, Haywards Heath, Burgess Hill, Eastbourne, Chichester and surrounding areas.

 

Initial Consultation

Completely free of charge, under no obligation and at a time and location convenient for you, this gives us an opportunity to meet each other and to run through any questions you may have on the role of a doula, my related services and me! As you are looking for support at such an intimate and private time, it is obviously important we get on and that you trust me, so this time together without obligation is extremely valuable.

Birth Doula Package:

  • Two antenatal visits - time led by you to answer any queries or cover any concerns you may have about the pregnancy, labour or birth.  For example, I would be able to help you construct a birth plan or run through the plan you have made already, run through the physiology of birth, cover pain relief and breathing techniques, positioning and visualisation – really up to you.  It is also essentially time for us to really get to know each other, to feel comfortable and establish a trust between us.

  • Unlimited telephone calls and emails to address any concerns or answer any questions you may have.

  • Loan of useful books and other resources from my collection.

  • Hire of my Elle TENS unit.

  • On-call for you 24/7 from week 38 until you have your baby with an undertaking to never be more than one hour away without prior arrangement.

  • Labour and birth attendance – for however long it takes and from whenever you wish me to be there!!  If you wish, I will also stay with you for 1-2 hours after the birth to help you with your first feed and settle you in comfortably with your new arrival.

  • One postnatal visit to talk through the birth, address any concerns or questions you may have, see how you’re settling in and establish if you need any further postnatal help.  I can also offer help and encouragement with breastfeeding if this is your wish.

  • An undertaking not to book another client whose due date is within 10 days either side of your due date.

Fee: £500 plus expenses.

Postnatal Doula:

The support offered by me as your postnatal doula is unique to you, as every mother’s needs are individual following the birth of their baby.  I would be there as little or as often as you like, offering you my full, unquestioning and non-judgemental support, both practically and emotionally, as you settle gently into your new way of life with your wonderful new baby.

The kind of things I would do as a postnatal doula are……

  • Support you emotionally and practically, offering you a compassionate, understanding, listening ear.

  • Support you with breast or bottle-feeding.

  • Undertake practical tasks such as shopping, light housework, baby’s laundry, cooking meals, preparing feeds, making drinks/light snacks for you and your visitors, answering the door and phone, basically anything that enables you to continue spending precious bonding time with your new baby.

  • Looking after your baby while you get some much needed rest, or giving you time to spend with your partner and/or older children, changing nappies, going out for walks.

  • Looking after and playing with your older children, supporting the integration of your new baby into the family.

  • Provide you with information on local resources that you might need as parents.

Fee: £15 per hour plus expenses, minimum 2 hours per day.

Placenta Encapsulation:

Based on a traditional chinese medicine, where the placenta is considered powerful, sacred and full of life force, your placenta is dried, ground and put into around 150 capsules for you to ingest following the birth of your baby. The benefits surrounding ingesting your placenta are numerous as it is so rich in vital nutrients needed for recovery after childbirth and encapsulation is perfect for totally natural postpartum care. The iron, vitamins and hormones found in the placenta will encourage a healthy emotional and physical recovery, replenishing the body with important minerals and vitamins, increasing a breastfeeding mother's milk supply and preventing the "baby blues" thereby reducing the risk of post-natal depression. When taken daily, your capsules should last 6-8 weeks and you can also keep a handful to help rebalance during your menopause.

Fee: £150 - includes home/hospital collection of placenta and delivery of capsules (£100 for my doula clients and other concession groups, so please ask)

Placenta Essence:
Extremely helpful for relieving "baby blues" and post-partum depression or anytime you need a little hormonal help or your baby needs a lift. Your placenta is distilled then suspended in a weak alcohol solution to create a remedy which can last you a lifetime. A few drops when you're feeling like you need a lift is very powerful, as is a drop for your child when they are fretful or under the weather. This essence works through the energy of the placenta water and the vibrational properties of it and many women with PND swear by it.

Fee: £50
